No accounts, no identifiers
There is no sign-in. The app assigns no user id, no device id and no advertising id, and sends no analytics. Pro is a one-time purchase handled by Apple; we see whether the purchase is active and nothing else.
Location
- The app sends no precise location. Your position is used on the phone to place the map and to compute sun angles and terrain shadow.
- Forecast requests go to our relay (relay.getgoldenhour.app) and carry coordinates rounded to the map box you are looking at, or to 2 decimal places (about 1 km). The relay caches each box for everyone who asks for it, so a request identifies a region, not a person.
- The relay keeps request counts per map box and per hour for cost monitoring. It stores no IP addresses with those counts.
Verification photos
- After a shoot you can optionally tell the app whether the light was better, as predicted, or worse, and attach a photo. This is off unless you choose it.
- Photos are stripped of EXIF (no camera, no timestamp, no GPS) before upload.
- Each verification is stored with coordinates rounded to 2 decimal places (about 1 km) and a 0.25 degree cell (about 25 km), the predicted score, your verdict and the hour. The relay refuses anything finer. Nothing links it to you or your device.
- Verifications are deleted after 400 days.
Weather data
Forecasts come from Open-Meteo through our relay. Open-Meteo receives the rounded coordinates and nothing about you.
Deleting data
Everything else the app keeps (saved spots, cached forecasts, settings) lives on your phone and goes with the app when you delete it. To have a verification photo removed, email hello@timpcreative.com with the approximate time and place and we will delete it.
Children
GoldenHour is not directed at children under 13.
